The South Dakota Department of Transportation says eastbound Interstate 90 will close overnight near Exit 46 in Piedmont from Tuesday, Nov. 3, through Thursday, Nov. 5, while crews install girders for a new overpass bridge.
According to the department’s Oct. 29 update, the closures will run nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Eastbound drivers will be detoured off I-90 at Exit 46 onto Sturgis Road, then to Stagestop Road, and back onto the interstate at Exit 48.
The department says the work is part of a multiyear project to reconstruct Exit 46 and portions of Elk Creek Road and Sturgis Road. The project includes new exit ramps, a new bridge over I-90, drainage structure replacements and new concrete pavement on I-90 between Exit 44 and mile marker 47. It also includes a bridge over the railroad on Elk Creek Road to eliminate the at-grade crossing.
The department’s Oct. 20 update says I-90 is reduced to one lane in each direction through the work zone because of bridge work. It also says intermittent flagging operations are in place at locations in the construction area outside the interstate, with related delays expected to be 15 minutes or less.
