The Rapid City Historic Preservation Commission and The Journey Museum will hold “Picture Our Past” on Sunday, Nov. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Journey Museum, 222 New York Street, according to an announcement from the City of Rapid City.
The announcement says the public is invited to bring up to three historic photos, each at least 50 years old, that show Rapid City’s built environment, including buildings, homes, skyscapes or signs. Photos will be scanned and returned immediately at the event, the city said.
Images collected will be shared in an interactive online map and added to The Journey Museum’s digital collections, according to the announcement. The city said the photos and accompanying stories will be included in an interactive Story Map connecting historic images with the places they represent.
People with more than three photos to share should contact Jennifer Bergstrom at 605-394-4120, extension 2339, to make special arrangements, the city said.
The event is hosted by the Rapid City Historic Preservation Commission and The Journey Museum, and is financed with federal funds from the National Park Service, Department of the Interior, through the South Dakota Historic Preservation Office, according to the announcement.
